Delete your account in the app
You can delete your Own-it account yourself at any time. It takes under a minute.
- Open Own-it and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Settings & More (or the settings icon at the top of the screen).
- Scroll to the bottom, to the Danger Zone section, and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm when asked. If you signed in a while ago, we will ask you to confirm it is you: enter your password, or sign in again with Apple or Google, or open the sign-in link we email you.
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. If you are using Own-it as a guest, there is no name or email on file, but runs you record are saved under an anonymous ID and the in-app option is not shown. Create an account to keep them, or email us (below) and we will delete everything saved under your guest ID.
Can't open the app?
Email support@own-it.fit from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my Own-it account". If you sign in with Apple and use a private relay address, tell us your username instead. We will confirm receipt and complete the deletion within 5 business days.
What gets deleted
Your sign-in account is removed first. Once that is done, the rest is erased automatically from our servers:
- Your profile, username and stats
- Run history, including GPS routes
- Friends and friend requests
- Badges and push notification tokens
- Territories and heat map points
- Contracts, route completions and cycling rides
- Zone and activity notifications
- Your feed posts, and your likes on others' posts
- Your membership in crews, pace groups and rooms
- Crews you lead, and your crew invites
- Profile photos and feed photos
- Emails we sent you, and your verification record
- Your username, released for others to use
- Your Own-it Pro entitlement record, and the link between your subscription identifier and your account
- Your analytics profile at PostHog and your customer record at RevenueCat (we send deletion requests to both)
- If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke the sign-in token Apple issued to Own-it
Deletion normally finishes within minutes. If a step fails, we retry automatically until it completes, and in every case within 30 days. Encrypted backups can take up to 60 days to roll off. PostHog and RevenueCat process the deletion requests we send them on their own schedules.
What we keep, and for how long
- Challenge standings. If you took part in a challenge, your result may remain in that challenge's standings until the challenge is removed. The standings are shown to other participants.
- Crews and rooms you only joined. These belong to other people, so they stay. You are removed from their member lists.
- Purchase records. Apple processes your payments and keeps its own purchase history; we cannot delete that. We delete our link between your subscription identifier and your account, so renewal notices from Apple can no longer be matched to you. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription (see below).
- Advertising and attribution. Install and purchase events already sent to Meta for ad measurement, and anything Google AdMob has already received, are held under those companies' own policies and we cannot delete them from their systems. See our Privacy Policy for what each receives.
- A record that the deletion happened. We keep the date and status of the deletion, against your internal account ID. It holds no name, email, username or crew.
- Other people's notifications. A short notification sent to another player can mention your username (for example, the winner of a room). Those notifications are cleared automatically within about two days.
- Server logs. The log of the deletion itself records your internal account ID and counts of what was removed, not your name or email. Logs are kept for a limited period, 30 days by default.
- Abuse-prevention counters. Rate-limit counters are keyed by a one-way hash and contain nothing that identifies you. They expire on their own.
Own-it Pro subscriptions
Deleting your account does not cancel an active Own-it Pro subscription, because Apple manages it. To stop being billed, cancel it on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Own-it. Cancel before you delete your account.
